We all have goals. I have personal goals and I have schoolhouse goals. Goals drive us, motivate us, and keep us moving forward. We model goal setting for our students and therefore it's important to share some of our goals with them. They need to see us working towards them. Better yet, they need to see us go through the struggle, the ups and downs of trying to reach our goals.
Goals are like the light at the end of a tunnel that you can see clearly during parts of the journey and not at all at other times. I have to remind myself that a goal is a challenge, an end result that will make me, my kids, or my schoolhouse better. The struggle that we go through to reach our goals is empowering and builds character. It fosters a growth mindset and instills a determination in our hearts. I want my students to know that through hard work they can accomplish their goals, modify them, and set new goals.
My schoolhouse goals are both simple and complicated. Simple in the idea that they are goals most people have. Complicated in the fact that, in order to reach them, I need the support of many. Goals that involve other people's cooperation can be difficult and often require patience...something I most definitely struggle with. Regardless of their simplicity and complicated cooperative natures, I still aspire to reach them!

- A unified schoolhouse where all grade levels work together to empower students through common language, individualized instruction, and positive affirmation.
- Know my students in a way that allows me to plan, assess, and support their individualized learning goals.
- Support building and maintaining a schoolhouse culture where each student, educator, and family felt loved, valued, and supported in ALL areas of need.
These are a few of my schoolhouse goals. They are specific to creating a learning environment where educators, students, and families will flourish. These goals establish a mantra that shouts, "We do what is best for kids!" The byproduct is that educators feel empowered and families feels supported.
The best days had at the schoolhouse are the days where progress is made. Progress in the classroom, in a student's attitude toward school, a student's behavior, in reaching a family, or simply the mindset of an educator. It is the little things that change us. The journey is more powerful than the destination. That is what we need to be teaching our kids. The little things we learn along the way to our goal are the things that build us, shape us, and create in us flexibility and persistence. The learning process is so amazing! If we can help our kids see THAT instead of the bumps in the road, the failures, then we are one step closer to our biggest, unified schoolhouse goal...
- Raising a generation of joyful learners who are curious, dedicated, flexible thinkers, who have a desire to be educated so they can fulfill the future story they want for themselves.
